The Schools Library Service (also referred to as “the SLS”) supports schools in delivering the National Curriculum, improving reading standards and developing a systematic approach to information literacy by providing the loan of high quality and well maintained books through a delivery system which is reliable and effective plus advice and support around reading and management of the school library.
Through links with the School Improvement Service and Library and Information Services, the SLS contributes to CPD and National book events for all schools.
To help schools meet their responsibilities, Accommodation Services offers a general caretaking service to schools during term time. The service has links with Children, Family and Adult Services and other Directorates to allow quick and easy referral and resolution of any issues that may arise.
The service will be provided by trained and experienced staff with expertise in caretaking. Staff will be employed by the Council and subject to standard recruitment, employment and vetting procedures for working at schools.

Road Safety Training
The aim of road safety training is to teach children awareness and consideration of other road users, to further their knowledge and understanding of the road environment and to understand their responsibilities to themselves and others when using the road.
Comprising of balance bike training, scooter training, pedestrian training and national standard Bikeability training.
Good cycling training will help to improve the safety of young cyclists, and at the same time encourage them to increase the amount of cycling they will do. This has a positive impact upon their health and improves general fitness and wellbeing.
The service will be provided by National Standard / Bikeability qualified instructors, with expertise in road safety and cycling training. Instructors are employed by the authority and subject to standard recruitment, employment and vetting procedures for working at schools.
